Hologram Heavy

I recently took a bit of a vacation from the shop.  A long vacation as well.  I shut down my shop for the entire month of May for many reasons.  One, I needed a break.  I love what I do but I also work constantly and figured I deserved a little time off.  Second I had a bit of a rebranding to do with my logo and a redesign of the whole shop.  On top of that I had a whole new hologram collection coming out for the reopening.  Enough to warrant a nice long shut down.

So for this post I wanted to feature one of the new pieces from the Fat Beats collection!  And not only was this a fun new set of clothing to offer, this collection also featured my first non gender specific clothing pieces!  Lots of people refer to these are men's style which by industry standards they are but let s me honest, these are made for and can be worn by anyone.  Which is why I decided to feature this non gender specific tank top!  It's is one of my all time faves from the collection fabric wise.  I love the pyramid pattern with the hologram foil print front with the solid black light weight cotton knit back.  I will be wearing this to many summer events this summer as it's perfect with so many looks and pairs well with jeans, shorts, shirts and more.

Also make sure to click on the link for the Color Vision glasses!  Available in 3 colors, they are a must have for your summer!

My Doctor Who Comic

I am lucky enough to have a husband who tolerates my extreme love for Doctor Who.  Not only does he tolerate it, he seems to encourage it.  Last Christmas he bestowed upon me my very own DOCTOR WHO COMIC!  That's right.  I star in my own adventure with my favorite Doctor.  It's loosely based on a true story I experienced with my eye surgery and the assholishness that is the healthcare insurance industry.  But enough of that, enjoy the comic!

PDX Indie Plus

I was lucky enough to become good friends with some fabulous plus size bloggers Margot Meanie of MargotMeanie.com and Kobi Jae of HorrorKitschBitch.com recently.  Both are fabulous stylish, alternative fashion babes who are also very active in the body positive community.  So when they both planned a trip to Portland I knew we needed to have an event for them to see how great the Portland plus size fashion scene is.  Along with that I needed them to model some new pieces coming out too.  So I planned an event at a large  photography studio I had shot at many times before that had fantastic natural light, lots of space and would be selfie ready for any and all photos to be taken.

The weekend started with Claire of Copper Union hosting a karaoke night at the Voice Box which was amazing!  I never sing and I sang all night long with everyone.  Not particularly well but I did sing and have a great time.

I busied myself Satruday which finishing up pieces for the event and shoot.   Come Sunday morning I picked the ladies up at their Air BnB for the shoot.  I just loved shooting them because so much of their personality just shines through in their photos.  Unique style, bold prints, tattoos and big smiles.  It was amazing!   I just have to share some of my favorite photos from the shoot.

Needless to say the shoot was fantastic and I would have them model for me and my company any day of the week!

Immediately after the shoot was the event.  I asked several plus size designers from the PDX area to join me, Chubby Cartwheels, at the event and Hello Amelia, Copper Union and Size Queen all joined in!  We had a limited attendee list because of  the restricting space so I asked local fashion and body positive bloggers, models and activitst to join us at the event for a day of checking out and trying on the designs of our local plus size fashion.   I also asked everyone to tag photos with #pdxindieplus and these were some of the photos I found.

There are just tons and tons of photos taken at the event but I can only make a blog post so long.  If you are interested in seeing more of the event check out it's hashtag #pdxindieplus on Instagram.  I had such a blast and look forward to putting on another one in the future!

2015 Roundup

I knew when 2015 started this was going to be my year.  I just had the feeling in my gut that it would be a year of healing (literally) and a great year for my business.  Both of which came true and have uplifted my life in so many great ways.

Personally,  I was on track to mend my left eye after having a cornea transplant in fall of 2014.  It was long, painful, expensive and at times full of tears but it was so unbelievably worth it.  I have regained my sight back in my left eye and I felt like I got part of my life back with it.  Up next is my right eye to have surgery on in 2016 but knowing more of what to expect this time around makes it all so much less scary and stressful.

Professionally is where 2015 really got to shine.  The year started off with being asked to participate in a long running Unmentionables lingerie fashion show put on by Siren Nation and the local brand/shop Altar.  I had never made lingerie before so I wasn't sure how I was going to do with it but I pulled it off and with that was the first collection for my shop in 2015.  We got amazing feedback from the audience at the show as well which boosted my confidence with the designs i had made.  The Intimates Collection launch was also the introduction of my best selling item the Diet Industry Dropout shirt!  Photos by Beth Olsen Creative and Klang Photography.

My next collection was a collaboration with one of my favorite people in the world.  My dear friend Courtney of The Glitter Thread.  She is a body positive blogger, writer, model and more.  We have been long distance friends for years but with her living in Ontario Canada we never got to see each other.  So when I came up with the idea to do a blogger clothing collaboration line with her as a perfect excuse to have her visit we jumped right on it!

Courtney's style is very feminine/fantasy/regal so we played on that creating another best selling piece in my shop.  The Boleyn dress for the Curves Reign Collection.   Her visit was so much fun and we created such gorgeous work together.  I can't wait to work with her again in 2016!  Photography by Nicole Kondra

Something happened this year that I never expected in a million years but will forever be grateful for.   I got a text message from Plus Model Tess Holiday telling me that she was asked to do a shoot for People Magazine and that she wore a bodysuit I designed and had sent to her for the shoot!  I was thrilled that she would even consider wearing something of mine for a shoot and was looking forward to what they put together.  I also thought this would be a like 1 page feature in the magazine or the website as I had no idea what to expect till I woke up one morning to another text from Tess telling me she is on the cover of People Magazine and she is wearing my clothing!  I was dumbfounded and at a loss for words.  My little shop that I started and still till this day work from out of my apartment has had it's clothing on the cover of a People Magazine on an international plus size model!  Tess has always been a great supporter of my shop and dreams so when I say I love her and am eternally grateful to her for this opportunity, I mean it completely.

I had been planning a big summer collection for months.  Wild prints, bright colors and just tons of pieces!  I got my best ladies on the job for modeling and photography.  And it was a smashing success and was my best selling collection on record for my shop!  The Summer Babe Collection!  Photos by Klang Photography

Another collaboration I did this year was with this amazing 90's inspired party girl, and my friend,  named Coco and she is a stylish fat babe to the max.  She runs some of Portland's best club nights like SNAP90's Dance Party.  And what does a party girl need more than anything?  A custom piece of clothing she asked me to make to become a staple piece in my shop!  Very mid to late summer we came out with the Coco dress and rencently came out with new colors for fall!  It's a skater dress make of gorgeous light weight mesh material perfect to wear with as much or as little as you like.  It was so much fun working with this girl. She is just fantastic!

I was asked to partake in the Alley33 fashion show which has been going on for years and is a staple for the Portland Indie designer scene.  A brilliant ready to wear fashion show held in the alley on 33rd and Hawthorne in SE Portland.  I jumped at the chance and was again the only plus designer in the show but was met with nothing but positivity!  Oregonlive.com wrote up in their review of the show "Amelia Boutique headlined, but it was Chubby Cartwheels, a raucously fun line of plus-size designs, that seemed to steal the show."  I died of happiness.

I took a bit of a break and had an adventure over to England to visit family and friends for 2 weeks at the end of September for my 5 year wedding anniversary as well as my father-in-law's wedding.  It was such a magical adventure!

And once I returned back to reality I put together my final collection of the year.  It went out a bit later than I had hoped but it was still gorgeous and I got to meet and work with a beautiful model named Saucye West from San Fransisco.  She was a total delight and I loved working with her and my long time model Leigh for this project.

2015 you were amazing!
